About - Phil Mansfield Photography

About

My photography is largely influenced by the many years I spent as an international tour guide. Years spent guiding groups of tourists helped me understand what people synthesize as different. The nuances that characterize a culture are as important as the subject. Even the minutest detail can tell a story about its environment—like jam in an old mason jar indicates it’s made from a generations-old recipe. In addition to being the photographer for the Culinary Institute of America, I have partnered with several chefs do to cookbooks. I have also contributed to several books on architecture and design. My approach to portraits is to keep my subjects authentic—I’m a good listener.

When not clicking I can be found in New York's Hudson Valley wrestling with my wife, daughter, cat and dog.
